Kyra is not your standard Bay Area based DJ.
She brings a vibe rooted in traditional music cultures but informed by the fabulous and fast-paced glam of the SF club scene. She’s known for consistently getting the party going with classic, funky and upbeat tunes that put a modern day spin on your timeless favorites.
Hailing from a musical family rooted with classically trained grandparents on one side, the rock n roll legend, Jerry Joseph, on the other.. creating music came naturally to her and surprised the acoustic focused family when she got into DJing. That being said, she still enjoys writing songs, playing guitar, and getting weird on the midi controller when she’s not mixing behind the decks.
An avid listener and natural creator, Kyra’s sets bring out the inner child in each of us that we thought we left behind long ago.
With a heavy focus on the feminist girl-power sounds of 1970’s disco queens, Kyra’s track selections evoke a timeless era mixed with modern politic and social statement. She’s infamous for breaking the mold and challenging the standards of the male dominated DJ culture. Encouraging and empowering other women is a cornerstone of Kyra’s expression.
Her DJ sets challenge gender norms and status quo within the electronic house and tech DJ music scene. People simply trip on her. We’re blessed to have her bring us the late night heat at DIO Fest, so bring your hottest dancing shoes (or roller skates) and get ready to outright boogie.
Kyra is one of a kind, whether it’s on the stage, styling behind the camera with her unique fashion affinities or organizing unique events of her own, this girl knows how to run the show.
Kyra's mojo behind the decks has the distinct flavor of tequila-funk-glitter-punch, mixed from the heart, served with a generous splash of independent woman hype, and always with some heavy feels garnished on top.
