Jungle Fire, Blue Summit, & Getaway Dogs - Artist Spotlight

Ryan Baesemann

Jungle Fire

DIO is bringing some heavy-hitting headliners,  Jungle Fire. Their highly infectious and explosive sound draws inspiration from the groundbreaking rhythm sections behind James Brown, Fela Kuti, Ray Barretto and Irakere; a musical recipe consisting of West African and Afro-Caribbean styles layered with heavy break-beat funk, all spiced with a dose of uniquely Angeleno grit.

“Few bands live up to their name in the way Jungle Fire do; fusing Cumbia, Afrobeat and traditional funk, each JF jam blazes the floor with real power” as described by Juno Records UK, best sums up the Jungle Fire live show. Serving up a healthy dose of originals and deep latin/afro funk covers all cooked up together in a live mixtape style set ensuring an energy that is nothing short of fire.

Currently, JF has been supporting their first full-length record “Tropicoso” via the Los Angeles heavyweight Latin Alternative label Nacional. Focused on taking their show international Jungle Fire embarked on a massively successful U.K. tour playing to packed venues at every stop including headlining Craig Charles’ Funk Club (Band On The Wall) and BBC 6 Radio. Not stopping there, the band also made their South American debut at the Mompox Jazz Festival in Colombia.

Blue Summit

Blue Summit (AJ Lee, Isaac Cornelius, Sam Kemiji, Jesse Fichman and Sully Tuttle) started out as a group of bluegrass festival-going hooligans who loved to hang out and jam. After a while, they decided it was time to become a band and thus Blue Summit was born. Fueled by the powerfully sweet voice of seven-time NCBS award winning vocalist AJ Lee and the exciting instrumental work of the band, Blue Summit has created a rich repertoire of originals and covers spanning genres including Bluegrass, Folk, Americana, Western Swing, Jazz, and Blues.

We're stoked to have some local norcal noodlers at the event, check em out below:

Getaway Dogs

Longtime supporters and bigtime friends Getaway Dogs will be making their DIO-debut this year. They've been attendees of our events and festival for years now and we're stoked to offer them a spot on our stage.

Dubbed by a friend as "cushy bedroom psychedelic bossanova" Getaway Dogs is the brainchild of Brazilian-Californian songwriter Kai Killion. With influences ranging from Tropicália to psych and indie rock, hip-hop, soul, and jazz, the band began as a solo project but quickly evolved into something of a collective since its conception in 2013. Various musicians of different backgrounds have passed through what Killion refers to as the "revolving door," each lending their experiences to the projects' unique, malleable sound.

After two and a half years of hard work, Getaway Dogs released its debut record, Lost In The Ebb in August 2016, drawing significant attention from industry blogs like Magnet Magazine:
"Getaway Dogs inhabit their own starry eyed universe, drifting along to the tropical pulsation of big bossanova guitars, shimmering intergalactic keyboards, somnambulant vocals, whispered percussion and buoyant melodies. With a small coterie of like-minded souls, Killion made a record full of dreamy, late-night psychedelia that spins a calm, soothing spell."
(J. Poet, Magnet Magazine)

Getaway Dogs' current lineup consists of Kai Killion (guitars/vocals), Andrew Dreher (bass), and Andrew Hawes (drums/percussion). Give their album "Lost in the Ebb" a listen below:
